Wg Cdr Abhinandan walked back into Indian territory around 9:21 pm at the Wagah-Attari Border’s Integrated Check Post, calmly strolling from the Pakistani side after standing there for just a few minutes.
He was flanked by Gp Capt Kurian – the air attache in the Indian High Commission – to his right and another lady, believed to be a consular official. He was however without his flight suit, wearing a suit and a shirt.
TV visuals from Pakistani news channels showed the convoy carrying him reaching the border around 9 pm. In a brief press statement, Air Vice Marshal R. Kapoor said the IAF is “happy to have him back.” “He was handed over as per a Standard Operating Procedure and will proceed to a detailed medical checkup because he ejected which put his body under great stress.”
